Modelling pollutants in real time: Challenges and key components

on .

P48I3 In recent years, the community has taken an active role regarding situations or factors that affect its air quality and that of its daily life, especially in those areas close to industrial sites.

Because residential areas are expanding, until they reach them, the need arises in the industry for agile and dynamic tools to assess this type of risk early. In this context, modeling of atmospheric pollutants in real time emerges as a tool with the ability to quantify the concentration levels of pollutants in the receivers based on real-time meteorological records.

Smart Inspection: New technologies in leak detection applied to waste management activities

on .

P48I3 Fugitive emissions of biogas in the Urban Solid Waste Treatment Plants are an important source of odors. These emissions that occur, for example, in the landfills cells, even when these are degassed with drainage wells connected for the extraction, transport and storage of the gas for its energetic use, or for torch burning, they are very difficult to detect and require processes that require a lot of time and high execution costs.

The optical visualization of biogas using an infrared gas analyzer (Smart inspec-tion) allows obtaining excellent results by implementing leak identification and reduction programs with an unbeatable cost-effectiveness ratio.

Development of a Future Spanish Standard for Collaborative Odour Maps

on .

27May online   As you probably know, the International Environmental Society of Odour Managers (AMIGO) and a nice bunch of other groups and experts is promoting the development of a new Spanish Standard on odour nuisance mapping through citizen science. Last meeting took place online on the 27th of May, and the first draft of this standard is close to be ready. This would be the first standard on advanced psychometry, dealing with odour mapping by using citizen science to our knowledge.

The roadmap for this initiative is to serve as a first standard on mapping annoyance to drive a wider  standardization process at a European scale, and from that go to ISO. It aims also to be a guideline for anyone interested in carrying on a citizen science study focused on odour impact.
