The European Horizon project DNOSES just published all the deliverables.

D-NOSES stands for Distributed Network for Odour Sensing, Empowerment and Sustainability. This 3 year-long project was supported by International Associations, experts in citizen science, odour and sustainability experts, local administrations and public bodies. The deliverables of this 3.2 million Euros project are just being published, so if you wish to become a "master" in the use of citizen science to map odours, here you have much information to learn a bit more.

This DNOSES project is a European Horizon 2020 project that studied the use of mapping odour annoyance to describe and study the impact of this environmental vector. The idea was to launch several case studies to see how better use this tool that links odour with annoyance. This project is over and now all the deliverables are available.

Lombardy will finance the development of a public platform for odour reporting

on 19 Novembre 2020.

The Regional Council of Lombardy, Italy, published a D.C.R. (Deliberazione Consiglio Regionale) on the 28th of July 2020, for the funding of the development of a platform to implement a control and monitoring system for odorous inputs. The decision of the Regional Environmental Administration of Lombardia was taken after studying the results of the first successful project of mapping odours developed by the Italian Regional Environmental Administration of Marche.

The idea is to develop an app to register odour observations by citizens so that the environmental regulator can make informed decisions with real time data is not new. There are many applications in the market developed for this purpose, and we have seen how successful this tool is in projects not only in Italy but in many other countries such as the USA, Norway, Australia, Germany, or Spain, to say a few examples of a trend that it is growing rapidly around the world. What it is however new here, is that for the second time, an Environmental Administration has taken the decision of develop an app rather than acquiring it from a private company.

Development of a Future Spanish Standard for Collaborative Odour Maps

As you probably know, the International Environmental Society of Odour Managers (AMIGO) and a nice bunch of other groups and experts is promoting the development of a new Spanish Standard on odour nuisance mapping through citizen science. Last meeting took place online on the 27th of May, and the first draft of this standard is close to be ready. This would be the first standard on advanced psychometry, dealing with odour mapping by using citizen science to our knowledge.

The roadmap for this initiative is to serve as a first standard on mapping annoyance to drive a wider standardization process at a European scale, and from that go to ISO. It aims also to be a guideline for anyone interested in carrying on a citizen science study focused on odour impact.
