workshop bam standard ioms   The 11th of April there will be a free workshop dealing with standardization on low-cost sensors in Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) in Berlin. Within this Workshop, there will be a presentationd dedicated to standards on Instrumental Odour Monitoring Systems. This part will be headed by Mr. Thorsten Conrad who is a member of the Working Group 41 of the European Standardization Committee (CEN).

   Mr Conrad will discuss in his presentation the state of the draft of the standard on IOMS developed by the CEN and will be open to questions on the matter. If you happen to be around Berlin on this day, and odour management is your stuff, it would be a good idea to attend this free workshop and to hear what this expert has to say.

The EN 13725 Interlaboratory Comparison ILC2019 is now open for registration

ILC2019   The company Olfasense has announced, once again, the Interlaboratory Comparison for Olfactometry (ILC) based on EN 13725:2003 for this year 2019. Organizers invite laboratories from different countries to participate in this ILC2017 tests. The registration period has started!

   The participation in this proficiency test (PT) will allow laboratories to confirm compliance to the performance criteria of EN 13725:2003, essential for those laboratories that maintain ISO 17025 accreditation.

CALPUFF Model, History and Current Status – Part 1

CALPUFF 2003 2019

   Dispersion modelling is a key element of most odour assessments around the world. There are 2 or 3 well known dispersion models developed for regulatory assessments of which the most well-known are, AERMOD and CALPUFF. Because both models have been US EPA guideline models until CALPUFF was recently removed in 2017, they are routinely used in most air quality and odour assessments.

   This article highlights the history and background behind CALPUFF and, the reason for its removal as a US EPA guideline model. Concerns with AERMOD for odour assessments will be presented in a separate document, Part 2.
