   The AIR TALKS 2024, organized by the Clean Air Society for Australia and New Zealand (CASANZ) is one more year here. This online global event will bring together over 50 speakers from 13 countries from February 19 to March 1. This time there will be a chapter dealing with odour management with a special focus on the odour challenges of Waste to Energy (WtE) facilities that will take place online on February 23. 

   Waste to Energy (WtE) stands as an evolving technology offering sustainable solutions to waste management and energy production. In Australia, the adoption of WtE technologies is gaining traction due to its potential to address waste-related issues and contribute to renewable energy targets. However, the management of odour emissions from WtE facilities emerges as a crucial aspect to address for sustainable waste management and community well-being. That is why the Odour Special Interest Group (SIG) of CASANZ is organizing a special session on this topic.

  The European Commission Implementing Decision establishing the best available techniques (BAT) conclusion for the slaughterhouses, animal by-products and/or edible co-products industries has been made public. The BREF document was under review, and the latest draft was published in March 2023. The final text of the BREF has not been published to date.

   On December 18, 2023, the Official Journal of the European Union published the Commission Implementing Decision of December 11, 2023, establishing conclusions on the Best Available Techniques (BAT) under Directive 2010/75/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council on industrial emissions, for slaughterhouses, animal by-products and/or edible co-products industries. This directive is very interesting because it brings the second panaeuropean odour limit after the one published in 2018 for Waste Treatment. These are some key points on this new regulation, regarding odours.

   Registration for our 2024 Olfasense Odour Workshop on Product and Material Testing is now open. On 15 and 16 May 2024, the Olfasense team organises the sensory and molecular odour testing at their laboratory facilities in Kiel, Germany.

   As in previous editions, the workshop aims at a wide range of industrial sectors that are involved in product and material testing and provides information on odour evaluation in this area. In addition to a series of presentations by relevant specialists and practical sessions on specific odour measurement techniques in the Olfasense lab facilities, you will get the opportunity to discuss specific questions in one-on-one sessions.

   The division of the company Lab Service dedicated to Interlaboratory testing, InterCinD, is already organizing its annual Proficiency Test for Olfactometry based on the new EN 13725:2022. Any European olfactometric laboratory is invited to participate in this edition to confirm compliance with the performance criteria.

   Registration is currently open for this year's Proficiency Test organized by InterCinD. The registration period will continue until August 4, 2023. This is one of the major Proficiency Testing (PT) exercises organized in Europe in the topic of odour.

   The team developing the high-resolution model system GRAMM/GRAL, inside the Institute of Thermodynamics and Sustainable Propulsion Systems at Graz University of Technology, has just released the new version 23.11.

   GRAL 23.11 has been compiled for .NET 8!
- The GRAL release is no longer published as an all-in-one file by default. This means that the user must install the .NET8 Runtime!
- For Windows users, a published version as a single-file is still available in a separate download!
