   Lakes Environmental Software has announced the acquisition of the CALPUFF atmospheric dispersion modelling system from Exponent. This transaction, confirmed on 5 May 2024, marks another step in the evolution of CALPUFF, a model widely used by researchers, environmental consultants, and regulatory agencies globally.

    CALPUFF is a US EPA Guideline model for all applications > 50km, it is also the guideline model for all near-field applications where the steady state assumption does not apply, i.e., complex terrain and complex meteorological environments (Sea breeze, boundary layers, etc.). In addition, it is a model widely used in odour modelling. The code of this model, while being publicized as "freely available," is not open source, as far as we know. Over the years, the ownership of the code has changed from SRC to TRC, Earth Tech, Exponent, and now Weblakes.

   The Italian company Enviroware is just on fire. They recently released an update of their CALPUFF GUI and also they published an update of their well-known model LAPMOD.  EW_LAPMOD is a graphical User Interface (GUI) designed for the Lagrangian particle model LAPMOD, an open-source tool used for simulating the dispersion of atmospheric pollutants. The software operates on Windows systems (we, linux users, will be missing it) and aims to simplify both the preparation of model inputs and the analysis of outputs generated by LAPMOD.

   Enviroware has released a new update to the official GUI for the propietary, source-available (not open-source) Lagrangian particle model LAPMOD, featuring two major new features:

Gral gui222   The well known Graz Lagrangian particle model (GRAL) system developers, with a free Graphic User Interface (GUI) available in both Linux and Windows, have released the new GRAL and GUI version 22.03 with plenty of bug fixes and new features.

   According to developers, systematic refactoring will improve the prevention of such bugs in the future, as the readability and maintainability of the code has increased significantly.
