Here we are the organizing committee after one of our meetings and we got to get a picture in a very special place. We try to meet both at our facilities and also in the university, but this time after a very kind invitation from the Consorcio de Aguas of Bilbao, we got to see this very special Biofilter.
From left to right we are Estibaliz, Carlos, Gorka, Ana, Astrid and Cyntia. We are inside a biofilter set in Sestao that is treating a volume of 140.000 m3/h of odorous air. Just our colleague Naiara is missing in the photo, by the way.
Under our feet we have a very interesting inorganic media in a new biofilter installed in the sludge dewatering building and according to the maker able to last 8 years (warranty of 5 years though) and a residence time of 19 seconds.
We had a very nice visit and our host was very patient to explain us all the details under the several engineering items installed to manage the emission of odours on this plant. They are working hard in order to avoid complaints from the neighbours investing both time and money in new units to treat the third line of treatment of a Waste Water Treatment Plant... the air.
