The company, based in Brighton, was known for designing and manufacturing affordable, high-density environmental monitoring networks, delivering accurate real-time data to evidence compliance, inform decision-makers, and support community action.
David Johnson, the Business Development Director, is a prominent figure in the sector. With a distinguished career and deep knowledge of the market for environmental monitoring systems, Johnson has been instrumental in the growth and success of the company. His expertise and leadership have helped establish South Coast Science as a benchmark in the industry, particularly noted for the reliability and precision of its products.
The company's products, such as the Praxis device, have been used in various extreme climates, from Africa to Alaska. These solutions, developed in collaboration with ultra-low noise specialists, electrochemical sensor experts, and environmental scientists, have proven to be robust tools for real-time air monitoring. Despite the closure, the company has committed to managing this process as smoothly as possible, fulfilling current orders where possible and coordinating with their customers and suppliers through the appointed liquidator. The situation is a sad announcement not only for those who have closely worked with South Coast Science, but also for odour managers in general, as we see that it is not easy to carry out a company in our sector. Before starting this company, David worked at Alphasense, a leading manufacturer of electrochemical sensors. Therefore, he had the knowledge, the experience and the contacts to make South Coast Science Limited a successful company. Unfortunately, that did not happen.
