The subjective nature of odor, together with the difficulties in their diagnosis and search for appropriate solutions, make this study becomes an effective tool for success. The experience is based on the association of three evaluation criteria applied simultaneously: olfactometric criterion for "identification of the nuisance", dynamic simulation criteria for "visualization of behavior in space" and structural analysis criteria for a "better elimination of causal compounds."

Abstract

   Many industries generate strong odors emissions throughout the production process. The subjective nature of odor, together with the difficulties in their diagnosis and search for appropriate solutions, make this study becomes an effective tool for success. The experience has been developed in Alacant Ice Cream Factory and WWTP, as part of a research project, on highly efficient technologies for the treatment of odors, in whose first phase it has been performed this diagnostic experience the problematic. The results obtained have allowed us to identify and characterize olfactometric conflict zones, define the actions most appropriate improvements for proper operation of catchment systems - ventilation - air renovation and determine the compounds that cause discomfort for a better selection of suitable deodorizing system. All thanks to successful association of three evaluation criteria applied simultaneously: olfactometric criterion for "identification of the nuisance", dynamic simulation criteria for "visualization of behavior in space" and structural analysis criteria for a "better elimination of causal compounds."
