Abstract

  Biological odor control systems have proven to be one of the best alternatives in recent years. Their competitive advantage lies not only in its high removal efficiencies of odorous compounds (Morgan J.M. 2003), but also in their low operating and maintenance costs, compared to a chemical scrubber.

   In order to demonstrate these benefits, EcoVerde made a comparison between chemical scrubbers and bioscrubbers. The evaluation was performed based on historical data on the installed chemical scrubbers versus data gathered on equipment provided by EcoVerde.

   For the purpose of the study, the EG bioscrubbers were installed  at WWTPs owned and operated by Lake Havasu City and Epcor Water, Arizona, USA. Both sites had chemical scrubbers in operation.

   By generating an analysis of operating efficiencies and H2S removals, as well as operating and maintenance costs of both types of systems, the results proved and confirmed that the EG bioscrubbers are an excellent technical and economic alternative for the removal of H2S and odors.

   After reviewing these results, both WWTPs,decided to replace their existing chemical scrubbers with permanent EG bioscrubbers from EcoVerde.
