Citizens* do not want to live in a smelly, noisy environment, and demand that local authorities take action when the situation is not satisfactory. This is particularly relevant in those areas where tourism is a major economic activity, where a high quality of the environment becomes an immediate economic priority and an asset.

Despite of the existence of many complaints regarding bad odours in cities and towns, no national regulation dealing with the odours issue has been developed yet.

In April 2003, the EN 13725 “Air quality—Determination of odour concentration by dynamic Olfactometry” emerged to fill the gap of reliable methods to measure Odours. However, there are other methods that measure odours such as the psychometric assessment, field inspections, physicochemical analysis and electronic noses.

Olores.org pretends to present the existing methods measuring odours, although Olfactometry will deserve a special attention.

The aim of Olores.org is to boost discussion with professionals comming from all fields and to structure all the proposals to demand to the authorities a regulation and control of the odour pollution.
